An Introduction
I started Clifton Orthodontics in Victoria Square, Clifton in 1995 having moved back from New Zealand. The practice relocated to Berkeley Square in 2009 for larger premises with better parking which has proved invaluable over the past 10 years helping our patients to visit the practice without too much stress.
I work alongside Joanna Jekiel our Orthodontic Therapist who I have known for many years. After your initial consultation with me, Joanna and I will both oversee your treatment to completion. We also have Lisa, our Treatment Coordinator, who sees all our patients and explains everything they need to know about treatment plans and options. Alyce, Kayley and Chloe are our Dental Nurse’s that support us in the surgery and we have Maria and Jess on reception to answer all your telephone enquiries, and make sure you have the correct appointments booked. Joanna Bonnick is our specialist Orthodontist.
We also have Benjamin, who deals with all our compliance and practice management. I have endeavoured to create a beautiful practice for myself and the staff to work in as we spend a lot of time here, as well as for you, whether you are to be treated under the NHS or privately.
MY TRAINING
I trained in dentistry in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1984 and then undertook my specialist training at Guys Hospital in London for the required 3 years finishing in 1990. Subsequently, I moved to New Zealand to help train orthodontists at the University of Otago.
So I have spent nearly 23 years as a specialist orthodontist, of which 17 years I have been using lingual appliances. I was the first in the UK to gain my certification in Incognito lingual braces and would consider myself one of the most experienced in the UK. Having my own family has helped me have an understanding that children need encouragement to be responsible for themselves and benefit from a relaxing and reassuring atmosphere.
Adults aren’t that different, as many consider dentistry stressful. Orthodontics is different and many patients gain a lot of confidence from undergoing orthodontic treatment and find it helps with their normal dental appointments.
